Court(yard) me!

Summer goes by so quickly! During the year’s most beautiful months, it is important to enjoy the summer as much as possible. Once you have found your dream home, you will need to landscape your yard, so that you can have a perfect summer! To have a backyard that will make your neighbours blush with envy, Équipe Lacroix has prepared a small step-by-step guide to help you create your dream yard.

  Where to start ?

It is the question everyone asks! Before rushing to stores and renovation centres (and buying everything you want to be in your yard!), take time to write down a list with your primary needs. What will you do in your yard? What will be its main use? What will make you spend more time outside? Once you have found the answers to these questions, get out a paper and pencils, and plan your yard. Write down your measurements as accurate as possible. You should also set a budget, which is an essential step to consider at the beginning of your project. It is the question everyone asks!   Have You Thought About This !

Now that you have identified your needs, established your budget, and drew your plan, consider certain outside elements that could impact your yard’s final layout—for example, the period and area of sunshine. If you want to install a swimming pool or provide space for sunbathing in the warm sun, make sure there will be sufficient sunlight, as swimming in the shade is much less appealing.

The wind is also one of Mother Nature’s whims that must be observed. Have you thought of adding a garden to your yard? A terrace to have a drink, eat and maybe work? Make sure these areas are as sheltered from the wind as possible. Although it can be refreshing during hot summer days, the wind can also bring your crops to a standstill, or blow away napkins or light trays on the terrace. Providing a secluded, sheltered area will be beneficial for your vegetables and outdoor meals.

You must also consider the type of soil you have on your property. Depending on its composition, it may be favourable for the growth of some plants and flowers, but not recommended for others. It is best to be well-informed before you plant your flowerbeds.

 Here Is Your inspiration !

And finally, decorations! To give your yard the design you have chosen for it, take time to get inspired and find styles that resemble you. Do not forget that a yard’s layout is a work done on several years. Hence, it is crucial to choose a design that will suit you for a long time. Browse decorating magazines, visit inspiring and current blogs, and download applications, such as Houzz or Pinterest, that can provide you with loads of inspirational ideas! You are sure to find the style that suits your expectations, and that will perfectly match your tastes and your home!

Have a great summer !
